Things that i'm looking forward to

Feasting, Diving, Holiday & Reading this book (not particularly in that order)

Artemis Fowl: The Time Paradox (Artemis Fowl)
by Eoin Colfer

You wouldn't believe how much trouble that i have to go through to get this book in time for my trip.

1. Kino at Bugis was sold out
2. Kino at Taka had copies but i was unable to make my way down as i needed to pick up my laptop
3. Got someone working at Harris(Suntec) to get a copy - who knew??!! sold out too
4. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my friend is able to pick the book up at Harris at Great World City for me this afternoon.

Oh... and i won something in a lucky contest!

To be honest, i have been pretty lucky.. the big prizes that i have won so far from participating from contests included an all-expenses paid trip to New Orleans for N'sync's concert, $1000 visa card from a radio contest which i used to buy my luxxie 2.. and yesterday, i found out that after filling up tons of postcards for the visit Singapore postcard contest, i won a $100 tung luk dining voucher. i would have wanted the first prize of course... but the voucher is good too. Just in time for me to buy moon cakes!

Oh.. and it's so ridiculous that one would have to queue for hours to get the race shirt cum tag for the Nike run! I went down on Sun, attempted to collect it, but with the queue snaking on for hours, i refused to queue for it. So went down on Monday, and there was a freaking queue again! So i kicked up a fuss, refused to queue and got my race stuff within 5 mins! Its so crazy... the best part, i had never had any problems with all the other races!

p/s... i read that people queue over 5hours just to get their packs on sunday. Google and you will find!

I am hooked!

With the Olympics on-going, it's a fact that i have been trying to catch as much of it on tv as possible.

It didn't help that H, while both of us was watching the opening ceremony went, "Oh, that's Martijn's brother carrying the flag for Netherlands." Although he mentioned it previously and that i have yet to meet Jeroen, i was like.. whoa... i had dinner and drinks with his brother! And who is Jeroen Delmee? Just the captain of the Dutch Hockey Team, 4 time Olympian, 2 time Gold medal winner and 1 Silver..Muahrharhahrar..

The Olympic Fever is ON!!!

And every day.. there's something to watch, and i love the gymnastics, diving, beach volleyball, tennis, football.. exciting ping pong and now.. hockey.

And i am so overwhelmed by the pictures on the Newsweek Blog

Everyday, i look forward to seeing their pictures, which is totally amazing!!!

This one took my breath away today..

Mike Powell made today’s Picture of the Day, using a technique to create an impression of the action from the Laoshan velodrome. Using a very wide angle lens, a 14mm, he set the shutter to 1/15th of a second with an aperture of f7.1. He picks up the solo cyclist and moves the camera to follow him, making a single focal point of near-focus, while the rest of the scene becomes a pastiche of color. The result is a stunning image that you would be unlikely to see in your daily newspaper—more one that you might hang on your wall.—Simon Barnett, Director of Photography, NEWSWEEK
And there are are others along the way...

What is very enlighting about the blog is that they will explain how they set up to capture that picture.. and sometimes, it'd take hours to do just that! I'm in awe!

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, it just evens out

Lose - Kingsley getting cut by glass on his foot, needing medical attention.

Win- Getting a cheque from HDB & contractor after Kingsley got injuried on a field after they admitted that it was due to their neligence.

Lose- Getting a ticket for parking at a no parking zone.

Win- Being one of the first to get my hands on the very much anticipated panasonic lumix dmc-lx3.

Lose - Getting caught driving in the bus lane.

Win - Discovering that laptop is still under warranty after sending it in otherwise, the servicing fees alone would have costed quite a lot!!

It just evens out.. so sometimes, its not worth getting upset over.
Just go OOOOOOOOOOMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Yum yum... who wants some?

Vietnamese Coffee Ice Cream

I had a craving after speaking to a die-hard coffee fan. So decided to try this recipe out as my first attempt for my ice cream maker. Plus, i know for sure that there is a willing taster in the mist for this coffee-flavoured ice-cream.

I found the recipe here

Vietnamese Coffee Ice Cream Recipe

recipe from Perfect Scoop by David Lebovitz

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (400 g) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup of expresso (brewed from authentic Vietnamese coffee powder from vietnam, using my mukka express)
  • 1 tbsp dark roast ground coffee
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 2 tbs of rum (just for fun to soften the ice-cream actually!)

Put the mixture into the ice cream maker

Being whipped and becoming soft served

And now it is in the freezer being frozen. The taste is FANTASTIC!!!

Lessons learnt. Read instructions!! The speed that i used to mix the ice cream was WRONG... i think maybe that's why the colour became so light cos initally the colour was darker. Hrrrmmpp..

How did i find out? My plum granita didn't freeze...then i started reading the manual!

Muahrahrhahra..

Blog about that next!

Ice for the weekend!

I'm really excited about my latest toy, H too... he called me up and went, " Ben???"

:P

Been checking out some websites to find recipes to try and they are some really good ones. Will be trying something simple this weekend.. a sorbet. It will be so cooling with the hot weather. The problem is, so many recipes and so little time! Already, people are asking me for a taste - provided it is good of course. :P

The recipe and pictures from Mike's Table, taken from David Lebovitz's The Perfect Scoop

  • 3 cups watermelon juice (for me, that was about a half of a seedless watermelon)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • big pinch of salt
  • 1 Tbsp lime juice
  • Optional: 1-2 Tbsp vodka (if you want flavorless–or you could go with something like rum)
  • 1-2 Tbsp chocolate chips

First, get a nice looking watermelon, cut it open and toss the seeds. You probably won’t need the entire watermelon for this recipe, so start with either a quarter or a half of the melon before you go to the trouble of deseeding the entire thing. Cut off the rind and discard.

With the watermelon flesh ready to go, puree it finely in your food processor (or a blender).

Scoop out 1/2 cup of the puree and pour it into a saucepan along with the sugar and salt. Warm this up and stir until the sugar is totally dissolved, after which, you should pour it back into the rest of the watermelon puree. Mix in the lime juice and the liquor (this will help prevent the sorbet from freezing up into a big block), if using.

Transfer this to the fridge and let chill for a few hours (4-6 hours) before transferring to your ice cream maker, churning according to the instructions that came with your ice cream maker. In the last minute or two of churning, add the chocolate chips.

Ideally, you have time to let this chill up for a few hours in the freezer, but unlike ice cream, it wouldn’t be the end of the world if you dig into this right away. Enjoy!

---------------------------------------------------

Looks really simple right? And there's a whole other tons of recipes out there. And this post is not to be missed! All the frozen desserts out there and Tips on making ice cream

A whole lot of Ben & Jerry's recipes here and sorbets

And i want to try making my own sour sop sorbet... kekekekekekkekekekee..

And this too!!! Vietnamese coffee ice cream!

Homemade Ben and Jerry's

Yeah.. i'm happy..

finally got this to add to my collection. It was on sale!!!!

And.. the best book to go with this is this! Anyone getting for me???

Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream & Dessert Book (Paperback)

H has been saying that he will buy it for me for the longest time. Not this exact model.. but an ice cream maker. Several ways that i have tried to get him to buy for me was to win bets, tickling contests, and the ultimate one, to pass my test.. (didn't he say i was to get a trip to Barcelona?) and such. He was tempted to get one that made only 7oz of ice cream... and i was like.. 7oz???? That's even smaller than a regular tub of Ben and Jerry's! If I make, there'd be only enough for you!!!! and there wouldn't be any left for me.

Muahrharhahrhahrhar...

Given that he'd be bringing my Kitchenaid over... what's another bowl. When i pass my test.. i will bill him.

:P
